A very easy way to upgrade an existing Joomla site if your fortunate enough to have Webmin already installed is to use Webmin's upload module. Keep in mind though if you have installed Joomla extensions which have directly altered core joomla code this could break your Joomla web site!
You already did a backup of your existing site right? Then login to Webmin Go to Others | Upload and Download | Upload to Server Tab. Click Browse to location of downloaded Joomla update patch. (Make sure you have downloaded the correct update version path in relation to your current Joomla version!)
Under File Directory to upload to Click button with three dots | Navigate to root directory of your web site (which is mostly name as public_html under your home directory.) Make sure Owned by user is set to your account name. Also set the group to your default user group. Click yes for Extract Zip or Tar files. The only left to do at this point is to click upload. When done Webmin will show an output as to where and what files got uploaded and extracted to. Now go to your Joomla control panel the system will indicate you are now running the most current version of Joomla!
